When we think about Vastu Shastra, most people focus on rooms, entrances, kitchens, or bedrooms. However, one area that is often ignored is the terrace or rooftop. According to Vastu Consultant Deepak Kumar Saini, the rooftop plays a crucial role in maintaining the overall energy balance of a house, office, or commercial building.
In his insights, he explains that common rooftop mistakes such as incorrect slope direction, wrong placement of water tanks, improper storage, and mobile tower installations—can negatively impact health, stability, and prosperity. Let’s understand the correct Vastu guidelines for a terrace.
Right Color as per Vastu for Roof Tiles and Stones
The first important factor is the color of tiles or stones used on the terrace. As per Vastu Shastra, light and neutral colors help maintain calm and balanced energy.
White
Off-white
Cream
Beige
Ivory
Green (light or dark)
These shades promote peace and positivity. While tiles or stones can be selected according to budget and durability, the color choice should always align with Vastu principles, as very bright or unsuitable colors can disturb the rooftop’s energy.
The slope of the roof is another vital element in terrace Vastu. Ideally, the slope should be from South-West to North-East, allowing rainwater to flow toward auspicious directions.
For large terraces where a complete slope is not feasible:
Around 60–70% of the slope should be toward the North-East
The remaining slope can be adjusted toward the North or East
This arrangement ensures proper water drainage while maintaining positive energy flow and structural balance.
Water tanks are often placed incorrectly, leading to serious Vastu defects. According to Mr. Saini, the best direction for placing a water tank is the exact West of the terrace. Slight movement to the right or left within the western zone is acceptable.
Avoid placing water tanks in:
North-East (makes this sacred zone heavy)
South-East (fire and water conflict)
North-West (causes instability)
Incorrect placement can disturb financial stability, mental peace, and health.
Many people use the terrace as a dumping area for leftover construction materials like bricks, tiles, wood, or cement. This is a major Vastu mistake.
North
East
North-East
These directions are meant for energy flow and openness. Blocking them creates dead energy zones.
Safe storage directions include:
North-West
West-North-West
South-West
If needed, a small storage room or organized racks in these directions can keep the terrace clean and energetically balanced.
Mr. Saini strongly warns against installing mobile towers on rooftops, even if they offer attractive rental income. These towers emit harmful radiation, which can cause serious health issues, including cancer.
He advises people not to sacrifice long-term health for short-term financial benefits.
The terrace is not just an open space it is a powerful energy zone that directly influences the health, stability, and prosperity of a building. By following simple Vastu guidelines such as:
Choosing the right tile colors
Maintaining proper slope direction
Placing water tanks correctly
Organizing storage properly
Avoiding harmful installations like mobile towers
you can ensure that your rooftop remains balanced, positive, and supportive of overall well-being.
A Vastu-aligned terrace helps create harmony throughout the entire property, making it stronger both structurally and energetically.
