Understanding Study Vastu for Children
According to Vastu Shastra the study environment is different, for people. The study environment differs for:
- Young Children (up to Class 7–8)
- Higher Education Students (Class 9 onwards, including competitive exams, IIT, Engineering, etc.)
Each group of people has its way of doing things and they need to be in a certain spot. The study table for each group needs to be in the area or it just does not work. This makes a difference for the people, in each group.
Vastu Zones: Best & Worst Directions for Studying
Below are the study zones explained in simple terms:
Best Directions for Studying
1. North-East (NE) – Ideal for Young Children
- Best for kids up to Class 7–8
- Enhances grasping power, stability, and calmness
- If possible, create the study area or study room in this zone
- Facing Direction: Always prefer East
2. East – The Energy Zone
- The rising sun gives us energy. It makes us feel positive and focused. The rising sun is really good, for us because it helps us to feel happy and think clearly about the rising sun and what we want to do. We get energy from the rising sun.
- This thing helps children sit for a time without getting tired. It is really good, for children because they can sit longer. Children do not get tired easily when they use this thing. This thing is very helpful for children to sit longer without feeling tired.
- Ideal facing direction for all age groups
- People do worship facing East. The reason for this is that the Sun gives us energy on Earth. The Sun is really important to us because it is the source of energy, on Earth. So that is why people face the Sun when they do worship, which is usually facing East.
3. West-Southwest (WSW) – Best for Higher Education
- Highly recommended for students preparing for competitive exams
- Improves deep focus and retention
- Ideal for older students (Class 9 onwards)
If West-Southwest is not an option then I will go with North-East.
4. South-Southeast (SSE) – Boosts Confidence
- Good for intelligent students but lack confidence
- Helps in communication, presentation, and clarity
- Suitable mostly for older students
5. Southwest (SW) – Skill Enhancement Zone
- Ideal for students practicing a specific skill or subject
- Supports discipline and stability
Directions to Avoid for Studying
1. North & North-Northeast
- Causes distraction and lack of interest
- Should be avoided for both young and older children
2. East-Northeast (ENE)
- Creates entertainment tendencies
- Leads to mobile addiction, distraction, and mischief
3. East (Area), Not Facing
- If the study table is put in the East part of the room. It is not facing the East direction
- The child may become more social. They will be around kids and that is really good, for the child. The child will also become distracted. The child will see many things and the child will want to play with everything. This is what happens when the child becomes more social and distracted. The child will be learning things and the child will be having fun.
- It makes you want to talk to people. You want to call your friends or meet up with them. You feel like being, around people and doing things with them. This makes you want to be social and have fun with your friends. You have a desire to chat with people and engage in social activities.
4. East-Southeast (ESE) – The Churning Zone
- Creates mental overthinking
- Suitable only for research-oriented students, not general academics
5. Southeast (SE)
- Increases aggression and irritation
- I would really like to stay from places that have a lot of red things in them like red tables or red decorations and so on because the color red is just not something I want to be around. Red colors can be found in things such, as tables. The way a place is decorated.
- If unavoidable, use neutral colors like cream or white
6. South
- Relaxation zone
- Leads to laziness and lack of action
- The child may look like they are studying. They will not stay focused, on what they are doing. The child seems to be having trouble paying attention to their school work. This means the child is not able to concentrate on their studies for a time. The child may appear to be studying. They are really not focusing on it.
7. South-Southwest (SSW)
- Drains energy quickly
- If your child feels unconscious or bored when they are studying you should try to make this area of their life better. You need to do something about the way your child studies because it is not working for them. Your child is not paying attention. That is why they feel bored. You have to refine the way your child studies so they do not feel unconscious or bored. Make studying more interesting, for your child.
8. West-Northwest (WNW) – Very Bad Direction
- Worse than Southeast
- Causes sadness, emotional imbalance, and low performance
- Avoid that direction at every costs
9. Northwest (NW)
- Represents movement
- The child will sit down. They will not be able to focus on anything. The childs mind will wander all the time. This means that the child will have a lot of trouble paying attention to what’s going on. The childs mind will keep thinking about things and they will not be able to concentrate on one thing for very long. The child will sit,. Their mind will be somewhere else.
- Leads to poor results despite long study hours
10. North-Northwest (NNW)
- Causes attraction distractions (movies, opposite gender, entertainment)
- Major focus loss zone for teens
- Shift the study table immediately if placed here
Final Vastu Recommendation
You do not need a lot of zones. Perfect zones are not really necessary, in numbers. The idea of zones is that you should have a few of them not multiple perfect zones. Perfect zones are what matter, not how perfect zones you have.
Even one good direction is enough:
Top two Vastu zones for studying:
- Northeast (NE)
- West-Southwest (WSW)
Best Facing Direction:
If East is not an option then Northeast is the best choice, for the direction we are looking for. Northeast facing is what we should consider if East facing is not possible.
When you put the study table in a spot it really helps. The child should face the way. This simple thing can make a difference. It helps the child focus remember things and do their work regularly. The study table should be in an environment where the child can study well and face the right direction. This is very important for the child to concentrate retain information and be consistent, in their studies.
